Welcome Back

I hope everyone had a wonderful Winter Break I also hope everyone is ready to get back into the swing of learning.

 

New Things to Come

In the classroom we are going to try something new in our everyday activities. I am going to implement a Workshop instead of learning centers. Your child will still be able to work with others in small groups but this will also allow your student to work independently and at their own pace. This will also give me more time to work with each group in a one on one setting.

We will also see a new reading worksheet every night. Students will take the reading sheet home to study and will read with me the next day. What I am checking for is reading fluency and accuracy. As they finish a lesson, they automatically receive the next lesson to read tomorrow. Students will move through the lessons in an individualized manner. It is up to the student to practice this reading sheet, if they do not it is okay they will take the same sheet home to practice again.

This Months Theme

This month we will be learning about winter. We will be learning about hibernating, winter animals and weather. In math we will start learning measurement.

 

 

 

 

Circle of Hearts

Each student picked a name of another student in our class and wrote 1 nice thing about the student. I found this activity as a nationwide memorial for those who lost their lives on Friday December 14, 2012. It was a way for us as a class to show respect to one another and hear a kind word.We did not discuss the events of 12/14/12 but I thought this was a beneficial activity for us to do as a class and show our unity with each other and our nation.

Holiday Websites

I promised the class I would post this website on the blog so they could check on the reindeer from home. We watched the reindeer a couple of days ago and I let them know at 9am, 4pm and 7pm they can see Santa fed the reindeer. They were all very excited. There is also a nice list that scrolls across the screen with children's names, so far Mrs. Morett found everyone in the class's name on the list with a little magic reading.  Reindeer

Another website that I love during this time of year is the Portable North Pole. On this website, you (parents/guardians) can set up a email video that Santa will send to your child/children. You can personalize the email and then Santa prepares the video and sends it to your email address.
